He is committed to growing a diverse and inclusive team to support AECOM’s vision — a world where infrastructure creates opportunity for everyone — uplifting communities, improving acces, and sustaining our planet.

Amer is a strategic planner and urban designer with a background in architecture. He has more than 20 years’ experience gained in the Middle East and his portfolio boasts a range of award-winning, high-profile developments. These include Saadiyat Island masterplan, London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games masterplan, Dubai Expo 2020 Urban Planning and Public Realm, the Jeddah Strategic Plans as well as Dubai Harbour, Bluewaters, Bastakiya Urban Regeneration, Riyadh Diplomatic Quarter and Al Msheireb Downtown Doha to name a few.

Since joining AECOM in 2007, Amer’s ability to address complex briefs, passion for design and understanding of cultural diversity has paved a way for accelerated career growth. In addition to his leadership and technical roles, Amer sits on AECOM’s global ESG and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion steering committees to embed sustainable development and resilience across AECOM’s work and promote an inclusive and diverse working environment.

Delivering a better world is AECOM’s foundational purpose and is the driver behind Sustainable Legacies, its strategy for reaching bold ESG objectives; ensuring that the work they do in partnership with their clients leaves a positive, lasting impact on communities and the planet. Amer believes that the development and utilization of digital tools that facilitate the measurement of the environmental and social performance of our cities is fundamental to urban sustainability. He is actively supporting this agenda through his extensive experience in city planning and design.

Over the last year, he has collaborated with in-house architects, planners and urban designers on a paper that examines the role of planning and governance in improving the quality of life of citizens in major cities. The study also explores how Big Data can be used for to ensure social equity through civic infrastructure investments.
Most recently, Amer has been advising the public sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the planning and implementation of Vision 2030 initiatives focused on quality-of-life improvements. Amer is focused on growing AECOM’s team of urban planning professionals in the Kingdom while maintaining a center of excellence in UAE. Amer believes that, while COVID-19 brought to us personal and professional challenges, the future is for cities, communities and businesses that are focused on wellness, resilience, and adaptability.
